Namaste

Life, living it without being in a conscious state, is like starting a book in the middle.

Birth, death and a ‘dash’ in the middle. That gap is filled with needless pursuits, momentary highs, a constant state of anxiety and an unexpressed sense of incompleteness. Freedom, health and relationships get traded for the mundane. A raft of addictions then take hold. What a colossal waste of an opportunity to wake up!

‘In Search of Silence’- explores what it takes to be free from societal conditioning, free from the ‘baggage’ of the past that hinders spontaneous living and an expression of personal power.

It’s a real-life story of an ex-Goldman Sachs investment banker’s search for true freedom, hastened by a near-death accident and a realization that there really was no ‘tomorrow’ to postpone things to.

“There is a song from a bollywood movie Anjaana Anjaani with lyrics “Tu Na Jaane Aas Pas Hai Khuda” meaning “ you don’t know that there is God near you”.

Rohan and me shared 4 years of this miracle that is called life as a part of my IIT days, but I don’t remember talking to him for 4 minutes at a stretch. After almost 20 years Rohan came back into my life, one day on Facebook, when I was asking for help in the treatment of my gardener who broke both his wrists in an accident.

No questions were asked and no follow-up was done. The treatment was successful and the gardener having recovered went back to his village, while connection with Rohan stayed.

Rohan derived from Sanskrit (rohana) meaning, “ascending”, ascended from the pedestal of everyday existence. Rohan walked out of a “normal and settled” life into the unknown; he wanted to search for answers to the mysteries of life.

His journey spanning years brought him tremendous results that he penned into a book “In Search of Silence”.

I didn’t realize it then that the above bollywood song had a literal meaning”.
